Labor Celebrates Black History Month
Dear Mighty3090!
Happy Black History Month to all. I hope this message finds each of you safe and healthy.
We recognize that the damage done by the fires in Los Angeles is not yet over, and will not be for several months if not years to come. That’s why your 3090 Executive Board voted to donate $10,000 to the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor/Labor Community Services along with AFSCME Council 36 and other AFSCME locals to assist our members who have been impacted.
If you or someone you know was affected, please visit our website here for a list of resources. There are an enormous amount of donations and resources available to you. Please take advantage of them. Feel free to reach out to me as well and I will assist in any way I can. You can email me at: 3090president@afscme36.org
In other news, the AFSCME Council 36 Convention will be held at the Long Beach Westin from Friday, February 28 thru Sunday, March 2, 2025.
This past weekend, I was honored to ride on the LA Federation of Labor bus during the Martin Luther King Day parade. As a prominent leader in the civil rights movement, Dr. King exemplified what it means to be a leader and activist. With the current political climate in the United States, it is more important now than ever to stand up for what is right, and resist what is wrong. We have made much progress, and WE WILL NOT GO BACK!
Please keep yourself safe and informed.
In Unity and Solidarity,
Larry Gates
President
