Let’s Turn Out For the November Election!

Hello, Mighty 3090!

The week before the big National Democratic Convention in Chicago, I attended the AFSCME 46th International Convention at the Los Angeles Convention Center along with the other 3090 delegates. The event was full of energy. International President Lee Saunders and International Secretary-Treasurer Elissa McBride were both reelected for another term. They spoke about the future of labor, and how important it is for each of us to use the power of our voice in the ballot box this November.

There were workshops, exhibits, a delegate reception, and even a cornhole tournament. The highlight for me was when Minnesota Governor and Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz spoke. Walz spoke eloquently about inclusion, laying out a plan to move the country forward by including labor in each step. It was exciting and exhilarating to hear him, and he brought the house down. He seems very down to earth, humble, and ready to get the job done.

In Los Angeles-related news, I received word from the CAO’s office recently that there will be a spreadsheet provided to all coalition presidents indicating what new and existing provisions have been completed in WORKDAY. I will email updates as I receive them.

Lastly, we have had a few ground-shaking earthquakes in the last few weeks. Now is the best time to ensure you are prepared. Have your “go bags” ready just in case you need to evacuate or relocate.

Thank each of you for all you do to keep this city running. They would be lost without you!

Stay cool.

In Unity and Solidarity,

Larry Gates
