AFSCME Women’s Committe

Be A Part of the AFSCME Women’s Committee!

Did you know that 52% of AFSCME’s 1.4 million members are women? Many of these women hold leadership positions as Council Presidents or Directors and International Union Vice Presidents. Approximately one-third of local union presidents and over half of local union officers are women.

The AFSCME Women’s Rights Department was established in 1983 and is leading the fight for dignity and justice for America’s working women. Women still face many challenges in the workplace, i.e. less pay for the same work performed by men, inequity in the workplace, domestic violence, sexual harassment, etc. The Executive Board of Council 36 has recently re-established the once very active Women’s Committee. To that end, we are looking for a few good women, and men, to join. You can help us to identify issues of special concern and assist in developing programs to help insure equality in all aspects of our lives. Rest assured, there will be fun things planned as well.

Mission Statement:

To empower women through education and involvement in our Union, community and family; to be pro-active in the political arena for women’s issue and to promote leadership.

Meetings will be held every other month on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm at:
