Committee Descriptions

BUDGET AND FINANCE COMMITTEE

CHAIR: RICKK MONTOYA

  • Studies revenues and expenditures, draws up a preliminary budget and advises the Executive Board on the financial status of the Local.
  • Monthly

CONSTITUTION COMMITTEE

CHAIR: ADDA MURILLO

  • Reviews the Local’s constitution.
  • Draws up and reports proposed amendments to the Executive Board and the membership.
  • Monthly or Quarterly

CONVENTION AND COUNCIL COMMITTEE

CHAIR: MONICA DELATORRE

  • Oversight and responsibility for development, operation, sponsorship, management, promotion and participation in the annual conventions and other specialized shows, events and sponsorship activities.
  • Determines the number of delegates/representatives the Local can fiscally allow to send and/or participate in the forementioned events.
  • Provides the Executive Board with its recommendations related to the administration and execution of these responsibilities.
  • Members of this committee are dedicated to the continued development and improvement of the union’s efforts.

GOOD AND WELFARE COMMITTEE

CHAIR: KIMBERLY GANIER

  • Studies and recommends possible benefits for members. Assists the Executive Board in carrying out the programs and policies of the International Union, Council 36 and Local 3090 (i.e., scholarships, bereavements, emergency member assistance).
  • Monthly (Emergency meetings as warranted).

MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

CHAIR: STEPHANIE SMITH

  • Formulates and actively supports programs to recruit members to the union.
  • Draws up and assembles organizing materials.
  • Makes recommendations on website ads promoting membership participation.
  • Makes recommendations to the Executive Board on events, activities and giveaways for the membership.

NEGOTIATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE

CHAIR: COLLEEN JUAREZ

  • Responsible for reviewing clerical MOU 3 to identify which articles need revising, expanding, implementing or deleting to better meet the needs of the members, and to report its recommendations to the Executive Board.
  • Collect, review and itemize all bargaining surveys and proposals for contract negotiations.
  • As needed.

NEXT WAVE COMMITTEE

CHAIR: GABRIELLE EARL

  • Hopeful young and enthusiastic members under 40.
  • Committed to creating and engaging the “young professional” community efforts in making a positive impact in the union.
  • Monthly or Quarterly

PART-TIMERS COMMITTEE

CHAIR: KATHY PETERS

  • Analyzes and recommends suggestions for part-timers.
  • Organizes and presents workshops on part-time issues.
  • Provides insight on specific part-time issues.
  • Reports to the Executive Board
  • Monthly or as needed.

POLICY AND PROCEDURES COMMITTEE

CHAIR: CHERYL EVANS

  • Reviews the constitution and policies and procedures of the Local.
  • Makes any necessary revisions, updates or creations.
  • Reports to the Executive Board and the membership on all recommended revisions.

POLITICAL LEGISLATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE

CHAIR: DEREK BRYSON

  • Assists the Executive Board in carrying out a sound program of political education and action, and encourages members to register, vote and contribute to PEOPLE.
  • Identifies, investigates and recommends support of legislation that serves the interests and benefits of the members.
  • Monthly (during election season)

PSR CHAPTER

CHAIRS: STEPHANIE SMITH & ANDREA JACKSON

  • Develops an organizing plan to create the PSR Chapter.
  • Gives monthly reports to the Executive Board.

SHOP STEWARD COMMITTEE

CHAIR: ADDA MURILLO

  • Meets to receive training and/or materials necessary to perform the duties of shop steward.
  • Confers with fellow shop stewards on member workplace issues and resolutions.
  • May conduct training scenarios and have special guests to convey relevant information.
  • May review grievances and recommend changes in grievance procedures.

SWAG COMMITTEE

CHAIR: ROSALYN DAVIS & SHAVAN BROWN

  • Create and design new ideas for union merchandise.
  • Give reports and quotes as needed/required to the Executive Board.
