A Message From Your President
Dear Mighty 3090,
I hope this message finds each of you happy and healthy. It’s very hard to believe we are already in May! Time sure does fly. Visiting worksites and meeting our members is the highlight of my Presidency. If you would like to have us visit your worksite, please send me an email and we will get that on the calendar.
The budget season is upon us, and I have been monitoring the hearings very closely. The ETP (Expedited Transfer Process) is still in place for those in substitute authorities that wish to transfer to proprietary departments. Please visit the Personnels website for additional information. It’s also going to be a very crowded ballot this year. I encourage each of you to read and educate yourselves on who best will represent us. Recently, a list of 3090 endorsed candidates was emailed to our members.
GOOD NEWS – Our next Cost of living adjustment (COLA) increase of 4% will be effective June 28, 2026
Tier One members – FINALLY, after what seems like 1,000 years, the Early Retirement Incentive Program (ERIP) expires effective June 30, 2026, which means we will no longer be paying for it.
I also want to bring to your attention a few items to be discussed at our upcoming General membership meeting on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
- Special Guests from the law firm of Copenbarger & Copenbarger will be on to discuss the living trust and will services offered to 3090 members.
- A reading of the Consitutional amendment that would off set future elections and increase executive board terms of service from two years to three.
- Delegate election nominations for the upcoming AFSCME 47th International Convention to be held in Chicago, Ill August 17-21, 2026.
The registration information will be emailed to everyone soon. Please join us if you can.
On a personal note, I want to thank each of you for showing up and keeping this City running. You are being asked to do more with less, and each day you step up and handle business. YOU are the backbone of Los Angeles !
In Unity and Solidarity,
Larry Gates
President
