Candidate: Heather Hutt
Office: City Council
Official Website: heatherhutt.com
Statement on Labor/Job Creation: “Job Training and Skill Development
Establish comprehensive job training programs in collaboration with local educational institutions, community organizations, and private sector partners. These programs will focus on equipping residents with the skills needed for in-demand industries and emerging sectors.
Local Hiring Preferences
We believe in supporting our local economy and creating job opportunities for Los Angeles residents. We will advocate for local hiring preferences in city contracts and projects, giving priority to local businesses and workers.”

Candidate: Adrin Nazarin
Office: City Council
Official Website: adrinnazarian.com
Statement on Labor/Job Creation:
“The combined challenges of homelessness, affordability, and housing have significantly complicated the task of generating jobs and fostering economic development. Adrin’s bold leadership will provide the following steps:
Grow the pot and grow revenues- Adrin will expand opportunities and increase revenue streams. Simplifying the process for starting and sustaining businesses in Los Angeles is imperative. For years, the City has posed obstacles to business development. Adrin will reduce bureaucratic hurdles and transform the City of LA into an efficient system that supports aspiring business owners. Streamlining, permitting and departmental approvals into a centralized hub is crucial. Businesses should not have to navigate complex systems or hire lobbyists to interact with various city departments. Adrin will be the first to roll out the red carpet for entrepreneurs aiming to establish businesses in LA.
Creating pipelines to the middle class- Creating pathways to the middle class is pivotal. Adrin will promote collaboration between the City of Los Angeles, public entities like LAUSD and LACCD, and private employers such as our studios. Adrin will help establish apprenticeship programs in partnership with labor organizations that will cultivate a new generation of workers, paving the way for meaningful middle-class careers.
Raise wages- Adrin knows addressing wage levels is critical due to the high cost of living in Los Angeles. With the average home price at a million dollars and individual incomes averaging around $42,000 to $62,000 for families, living in Los Angeles is financially demanding. Adrin will work hard to attract businesses offering skilled jobs and higher wages. Many such jobs are leaving LA due to the challenging business environment. Additionally, Adrin will collaborate with employers to ensure that Angelenos earn a living wage. While $15 was a starting point, factors like inflation and the pandemic make it insufficient, particularly in one of America’s most expensive cities. The goal is to enable Angelenos not only to survive but to thrive in LA.”

Candidate: Michele Chambers
Office: State Senate
Official Website: michelleforcalifornia.com
Statement on Labor/Job Creation:
“Chambers is a steadfast champion for working families. She understands people are struggling with wages that fail to keep up with rising costs. She is committed to creating good-paying union jobs, increasing the minimum wage and growing the middle class, while implementing paid family leave, affordable childcare, and equal pay for equal work. That’s why she is the only candidate supported by the California Labor Federation and labor unions that represent hundreds of thousands of working people, including nurses, classroom teachers, grocery store workers, transit workers, construction workers and more.”

Candidate: Sade Elwahary
Office: Assembly District 57
Official Website: sadeforassembly.com
Statement on Labor/Job Creation:
“Prioritize equal pay and apprenticeship programs designed to give women, and particularly women of color, opportunities at high-road jobs.”

Candidate: Mark Gonzalez
Office: Assembly District 54
Official Website: markgonzalezforassembly.com
Statement on Labor/Job Creation:
“Mark Gonzalez has been a champion for working families throughout his career. Mark helped lead the successful fight to guarantee a $25/hour minimum wage for healthcare workers in California. He has joined striking workers on the picket lines fighting for living wages — from frontline nurses to Hollywood entertainment workers, hotel workers to public educators, classroom teachers and more. Mark also helped pass laws to allow full-time students to attend community college for free, opening the doors to college for millions of young Californians. In the Assembly, he will continue fighting to create good-paying union jobs — that’s why Mark is endorsed by nurses and frontline healthcare workers, firefighters, classroom teachers, construction workers and the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.”

Candidate: Sasha Renée Pérez
Office: State Senate
Official Website: sashareneeperez.com
Statement on Labor/Job Creation:
“Sasha Renée Pérez has experienced first-hand the challenges of navigating rising inflation. The cost of food, housing and utilities has risen rapidly over the years, but wages have not kept up. As the daughter of a union electrician and the granddaughter of an AFL-CIO organizer, Pérez knows that union jobs can help rebuild the middle class. She has worked with labor unions and local businesses to bring hundreds of good-paying jobs to her community.
Pérez understands small businesses play a significant role in our local economy and help bring character and identity to our communities. She worked with small business leaders and restaurant owners to save them money by capping the fees that third-party delivery services charge, and ensured essential workers received the pay they deserved and could afford to support their families.
As State Senator, Pérez will continue to fight to protect workers, expand access to good-paying jobs and ensure that small business owners receive the protection they deserve.”
