A Message From Your President
Dear Mighty 3090!!!
I hope my message finds each of you healthy and enjoying our Fall weather.
As you all know, we, along with our Coalition partners, reached a tentative agreement to fend off layoffs for all our members for fiscal year 2025-2026. Considering we were facing upwards of 1,600 potential layoffs, this was a HUGE WIN!
However, our work is not done. We are now laser-focused on having members that remain within the layoff positions transitioned using the ETP (Expedited Transfer Process) into proprietary departments. Please visit the Personnel’s website for details on the ETP. (www.personnel.lacity.gov)
As discussed in our Zoom meetings, the Personnel Department has finalized a presentation to be used on their ‘tour’. I, along with other union partners, will be joining Personnel in their efforts to explain the importance of having our members relocated into self–funded positions. Positions safe from the layoffs are safe only for the fiscal year 2025-2026. After June 30, 2026, unless funding is restored, those positions will be eliminated. As per our agreement, the more employees we are successful in having transferred, the fewer unpaid days off the Coalition members will have to endure. I will do my very best to update you all as more information becomes available.
Our November General Membership meeting will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm to allow your Executive Board to participate in a food giveaway with the Los Angeles Federation of Labor.
I wish each of you a VERY happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday.
In Unity and Solidarity,
Larry Gates
President
