Dear Mighty3090,

Congratulations are in order—as I write this, the Los Angeles City Council has just officially voted to approve our contract!

As previously mentioned, our first COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) raise of 3% will arrive in May. We will be receiving retroactive pay from 3/24/2024. We will see retroactive pay approximately 3-5 weeks after we receive the COLA, and any salary increases will also be retroactive to the same date. There is no set date when the salary increases will be received. I assure you, as I receive any concrete information I will pass it along to you.

Again, I want to thank you all for your patience during this process. Being a new president and therefore a newcomer to negotiations, it was a big learning curve, to say the least. I am extremely thankful for the incredible negotiations teams that worked so hard to get as much as we could for our members. It was not easy. We fought back and forth until the very last minute. I have enjoyed getting so much positive feedback about how grateful people are, and how much these raises are going to help them and their families. That is what I do this for: to better the working lives of each of you. This is YOUR union, and we did the very best we could to get what we achieved.

Now that negotiations are over, I hope to have a bit more time to visit our members. If you would like us to visit your workplace, please reach out to me or any of your Board members so we can get it scheduled. I look forward to meeting as many members as possible, so please reach out.

Lastly, due to a scheduling conflict, our general membership meetings will now be held on the last Thursday of each month; the new schedule is posted on our website under “Meeting Schedules.” Our next one is Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. The meetings will currently remain hybrid, with both an in-person and ZOOM attendance option.

I hope this message finds you all healthy. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for some warm Southern California weather. Wishing you all a very happy Springtime!

In Unity and Solidarity,

Larry Gates
