Aug. 2023: MOU Amendments Ratified
This month, your executive board held its first of many member appreciation events, beginning with three hours of bowling, food and drinks at Lucky Strike at downtown L.A. Live. Everyone had a great time! Check out the pictures on our website. Keep an eye on your email for upcoming events. Come join us, we would love to meet you in person.
If you would like us to visit your worksite, please email me or any of your executive board to get it on the calendar. Meeting people face-to-face is one of my favorite things to do as your president.
I met with 13th District Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez at our downtown 911 dispatch center. We spent more than two hours discussing critical staffing issues facing all our city classifications. It is imperative that the city take swift emergency measures to fill these vacancies.
In late July, we had our first executive board retreat. It was great to be away from the office and meet one-on-one with the board and the area coordinators. We developed a plan to grow our Local and came up with the necessary steps to do so. This is YOUR union, and we are so grateful you allow us the great responsibility of making the tough decisions for the betterment of all of you! It truly is our honor!
On August 3, you voted overwhelmingly to ratify the amendments put forth in our current contract. Negotiations for our next contract should begin late August or early September. I vow to keep you posted as things progress. When it comes time to ratify or vote on any aspect of your union, I implore each of you to take the time to participate in the voting process. We are only as strong as our vote!
Stay hydrated.
In Unity and Solidarity,
Larry Gates
