MLK Breakfast Honors “Twenty Somethings” Fighting for Civil Rights
Members of 3090 including President Gates and Vice President Murillo were delighted to attend the LA Federation of Labor’s breakfast honoring the life of Martin Luther King Jr., held on January 13th at the LA Convention Center. The breakfast included a gospel-flavored musical performance, appearances by LA Fed leader Yvonne Wheeler and “Twenty-Something” Tennessee State Representative Justin J. Pearson, who gained national attention for protesting for gun control reform on the Tennessee House floor in the wake of 2023 Convenant School shooting in Nashville. Pearson, 29, was kicked out of the chamber for violating “decorum” rules but was quickly reinstated by his constituency. Mayor Karen Bass, no longer a Twenty-Something but a civil servant with decades of experience advocating for civil rights, also made an appearance.
